Manly Men

I realize that many of our friends are "manly men" (you know who you are) and all of this means nothing to you. So here are some "Rules for Driving the Amalfi Coast".

[getting there]
Local Transportation

We will arrange transportation to the wedding on Thursday, so that is one less thing for you to worry about. From what I've read driving in Amalfi Coast is not for the faint hearted.

"The natives joke that to drive it end to end in the English manner takes three hours; Italian style, a half hour." Fodors.com

"Naples has the world's worst traffic outside Cairo." Frommers.com

If you don't feel comfortable driving you may want to consider just using the local transportation. There are plenty of reliable buses and cabs in the area.

Private Drivers

Another option is to hire a private driver. I think the McKitricks may use Marcello Maresca. [UPDATE: My parents recently returned from another trip to Ravello and used Easy Coast and were very pleased.] I am going to provide links below to other private drivers, but unfortunately, I can not vouch for their reputation, so you will need to do some research on your own. The links marked with a * were recommended on the Fodor's Forums.

Some sample prices I saw for one private driver were:

Transfer from Naples to Amalfi-88 Euros
Transfer from Amalfi to Rome-340 Euros
Tour to Pompeii for 33 Euros per hour

Useful Links

As I have said elsewhere on this site, the Fodor's Web site is excellent so I'm not going to recreate the wheel. Visit the Fodor's web site for more information on getting around.
